Good Morning, Father

Today we sing, O Come, O Come, Emanuel, and we await the return of the King. We lift up our songs of praise and joy in anticipation of the glory of God reigning on earth as in heaven. We listen to the story of Mary being told that she, without ever having had contact with a man, will bear a child, that God himself is the father, and that she will give birth to the son of the living God. How would any one of us react to that kind of news? If an angel were to tell us that you were going to work actively in our lives in a manner that goes against the acceptable social proprieties of our time, would we be willing to say yes and let you do as you please? Would we say with Mary, “Let it be done just as you have said?” Would we then sing a song of praise to you as we let your purposes work out in our lives? Would we continue to sing, “To God be the glory?” Father, you do ask us to give our lives to you, not in quite as spectacular a manner as you did with Mary, but you ask us every day to put you and your purposes first. Help us to say yes. Help us to let go of the fear of what people will think and to stick closely by your side as you accomplish the things through us that you want done. Father, help us to sing the song of praise and give you the glory always.
